On Thursday, December 28, police responded to a report of gunfire on Adrian Street, just south of G Street. They arrived at 7:30 p.m. and found a vehicle on fire. After the fire was put out, officers found a woman unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds in the trunk. Police said, by the time D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived, they found “no signs consistent with life.”
Every single white lesbian who has spent years complaining about the lack of lesbians on screen had better support The CW’s Black Lightning.
Anissa Pierce (portrayed by Nafessa Williams):
is a canon lesbian with superpowers (who goes by the name Thunder) who has, among other abilities, the power to make herself invulnerable (this means she’s essentially unkillable-although she can be hurt/injured!)
Her comic-canon girlfriend Grace Choi (Chantal Thuy) has already been cast:
Grace is half-Amazon, and has superhuman durability and rapid healing abilities-which also help to make her relatively invincible!
Also, they’re really cute in the comics:
So basically-support this lesbian, interracial, basically invulnerable couple on the CW’s Black Lightning-airing January 16th, 2017!!!!!
WHAT?!!!! OMFG I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS SHOW IS ABOUT BUT I NEED TO WATCH
Willem Arondeus was a Dutch resistance fighter who gave his life trying to protect his Jewish countrymen from the Nazis.
Born in Amsterdam in 1895, Willem was one of six children. From a young age, he was a talented artist and his parents encouraged his creativity, until he came out as homosexual at age 17.
In a time when nearly all gay people were in the closet, Willem’s parents could not accept his choice to live openly. Their rejection led Willem to run away from home.
On his own, Willem took odd jobs and eventually became a successful visual artist and writer. He was commissioned to paint a mural for Rotterdam’s town hall, in a style that combined modern abstract painting with a traditional Dutch motif. Willem was a well-respected author who published a popular biography of Dutch painter and political activist Matthijs Maris.
In 1940, Germany invaded the Netherlands. Willem immediately joined the resistance movement, and urged his fellow artists to fight against the Nazi occupation. WIllem published illegal anti-Nazi pamphlets calling for mass resistance against the Germans.
Willem was especially committed to saving Amsterdam’s Jewish community. Bringing in others to the cause, Willem arranged for Dutch Jews to be hidden in people’s homes. He used his artistic skills to create false identity papers.
In 1943, Willem hatched a brazen plan. Dressed as a German Army captain, and with 15 men behind him, Willem boldly marched into the Public Record Office, where lists identifying people as Jews were kept. Willem drugged the guards and planted a firebomb. The resulting blaze destroyed tens of thousands of documents, and delayed or prevented many Jews from being identified by the Nazis.
Unfortunately, Willem was captured by the Germans and sentenced to death. Willem’s last words before being executed in July, 1943 were, “Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards.”
In 1986 Yad Vashem recognized Arondeus as Righteous Among the Nations.
Because of his sexual orientation, Willem’s story was omitted from Dutch history books. Only in the last 20 years has his courage become widely known.
i have never heard of this!
gay hero 💖💖💖
“Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards.”
So I must b a dumb ass becuz I just realized all major electronic / tech companies r JAPANESE or SOUTH KOREAN. Sony, Toshiba, Canon, Nikon, JVC, Sanyo, Sharp, Fujifilm, Pioneer and Pentax and Hitachi = ALL Japanese companies.
LG and Samsung are South Korean.
Hisense is Chinese.
Like damn so many electronic/tech companies originate from a country in ASIA! No wonder Japan is so wealthy despite being a small country.
I’m a dumb ass for only realizing this now, but I wonder if there are ppl out there who don’t realize a lot of the technologies they use are thanks to countries like Japan and South Korea that they like to pretend only matter cuz of anime or K-pop…
It makes me so furious when people attack Islam for Muhammad’s marriages and polygamy, and only name A'isha and then go on to describe her as a child bride.
Yet they’re all silent when it comes to how A'isha was able to lead battles, shape politics, and influence the development of Islam after the Prophet died.
They’re all silent when it comes to talking about his twenty-five years of monogamous marriage to Khadija bint Khuwaylid, a woman who was fifteen years older than him, his employer, and the one who proposed.
They’re all silent when it comes to Sawda bint Zam'a, who Muhammad married because she was widowed and had suffered too many hardships to remain unmarried.
They’re all silent when it comes to Hafsa bint Umar, the woman who could recite the Qur'an better than most men and whose memory influenced the version of the Qur'an we have today.
They’re all silent when it comes to Zaynab bint Khuzayama, the woman referred to as “the mother of the poor” because of all her charity work.
They’re all silent when it comes to Umm Salama, the woman Muhammad went to for advice during the Treaty of Hudaybiya, the treaty that allowed Muslims to return to Mecca.
They’re all silent when it comes to Rayhana bint Zayd, an upper class Jewish woman who taught Muhammad the traditions of the Torah.
They’re all silent when it comes to Zaynab bint Jahsh, a tempermental and slightly egotistical woman who was constantly praised by Muhammad’s other wives for her charity work and her religious devotion.
They’re all silent when it comes to Juwayriyya bint al-Harith, the woman who married Muhammad to create a political alliance that would allow one hundred enslaved families to be set free.
They’re all silent when it comes to Safiyya bint Huyyay, a Jewish noble woman whose relationship with Muhammad changed the antisemitism attitude among his followers.
They’re all silent when it comes to Umm Habiba, the woman who converted to Islam despite the protest from her polytheist father and who remained Muslim despite her (at the time) husband converting to Christianity, because she believed in Islam and refused to waive that belief.
They’re all silent when it comes to Maryam al-Cibtiya, the mother of Muhammad’s only son, Ibrahim, named after the ancestor of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, tying all three monotheistic religions together.
They’re all silent when it comes to Maymuna bint al-Harith, the woman from Mecca who proposed to Muhammad and whose marriage reconnected him to Mecca, the city Muslims face when they pray.
It’s really amazing how people can go on and on about how Islam is so misogynistic because of Muhammad’s polygamy and his marriage to A'isha while simultaneously never bothering to learn who these women even are and what amazing things they did to influence Muhammad’s life and Islam itself.
They’re all silent when it comes to Nusaybah bint Ka‘b, who fought in the battle of uhud and defended the prophet until she fell unconscious from her wounds.
They’re all silent when it comes to Khawla bint al-Azwar the legendary warrior who fought the Byzantine battalions and led the Muslim soldiers and was compared to Khalid ibn Walid, one of the only undefeated generals in history.
They’re all silent when it comes to Sayyida al-Hurra, the infamous pirate queen who had power over the Mediterranean, fought against the Christina invaders and who’s names literally means ‘noble lady who is free and independent’
The prophet brought feminism to arabia, a country where baby girls were buried alive so that they wouldn’t bring ‘shame’ to their families in the future, a country where women were bought and sold like cattle. 1400 years ago, women were allowed to study, have a choice in their marriage, inherit, work and were not seen as inferior to men, while the catholic church was debating whether or not women had souls. The prophet could have married any beautiful women in Arabia, but he only married widows and old women who had no one to take care of them, apart from his marriage to Aisha which was at first a political one.
The first accounts of Aisha’s age was only talked about centuries after her death so no one actually knows how old she was. Some say 12, others say 19. But Islam prohibits a marriage in which the man or woman has not hit puberty, regardless of whether or not you were a man or woman. But the fact is Aisha did have a choice in her marriage and this was evident in her life and in her relationship with the prophet.
To paint Aisha as a victim is to disregard her entire life. She is regarded the most important Islamic scholars and judges who ever lived, and had a perfect memory, as she memorized both the quran and hadith. She was a stateswoman and was extremely active in political matters and even led an army on a red camel. She was notoriously head strong and assertive, with a witty sense of humour. She was not only knowledgeable in religion, but also in medicine, poetry, literature, history and politics. She was so intelligent that the prophet ordered the Muslims to consult her after his death, which they did. I find it hard to believe that a woman who was supposedly forced into a marriage at a young age and was abused by a older man could be so in love with her husband that he spent his last moments in her embrace and that their relationship has always been seen as a true love story among many Muslims.
Good morning to everyone except the 14,000 self-identified feminists who reblogged/liked a post saying “yeah this guy had a child bride and sex slaves but what about all his other wives tho”.
But eh, what the hell, this is an educational opportunity for all of us. OP relies upon the ahadith and biographies for her information, even though, as the other poster says, they were collected later and some are of questionable authenticity. But why does this only apply to the ahadith Aisha’s age? What if all of them are lies? Well, that’s no fun, we can’t talk about how feminist Islam is in that case. So let’s take a look at what they actually say about all these women. I’ll quote only the “sahih” or strong/legitimate ahadith collections.
Where to start? Maybe with Aisha.
But Islam prohibits a marriage in which the man or woman has not hit puberty
That’s a lie. There is nothing in Islam prohibiting marriage before puberty. Nothing in the Quran (which actually has specific provisions for how you can divorce your pre-pubescent wife) or the ahadith prohibits child marriage. In fact neither gives any minimum age at all.
Oh, and irrelevant to the topic, but this
The prophet brought feminism to arabia, a country where baby girls were buried alive
is also a lie. Infanticide, either female or otherwise, was not a common practice in pre-Islamic Arabia. Propaganda against polytheistic Arabians, comparable to propaganda against pagan Europeans. Ask these people for one recorded instance of this happening and prepare for some blank stares.
Aisha’s age is not particularly debated. Only later apologists tried to magically make her an adult at the time of her marriage. Aisha was born in or around the year 613 AD. Her father, Abu Bakr, was a wealthy merchant. He had spent the past two decades of his life traveling extensively as part of a caravan. Abu Bakr’s conversion to Islam was key in the growth of the religion, as he was very well-connected. The man who would later be the third caliph of the Islamic imperialistic state, Uthman, converted to Islam at Abu Bakr’s insistence.
Abu Bakr was 40 years old at the time
of Aisha’s birth. He already had at least three other children with two women.
The ahadith are all very clear on the age at which Aisha was married to Mohammed. She was six. Six years old. They “consummated their marriage”, i.e. he raped her for the first time, at nine. Mohammed chose her because, of course, Allah told him to. In a dream.
How romantic. They were married a few months after the Muslims set up shop in Medina, having traveled there from their hometown of Mecca. By this point, Mohammed’s first wife Khadija had already passed away. Mohammed himself was in his 50s. Khadija was indeed his employer, sole wife, and the primary breadwinner in pre-Islamic Arabia, so I’m not sure what OP thinks she’s proving here. Re-consider that argument. I mean how exactly does Khadija’s life as a wealthy, respected, educated businessowner in polytheistic Arabia gel with this implication that Islam gave women rights they didn’t have before?
women were allowed to study, have a choice in their marriage,
inherit, work and were not seen as inferior to men [liiiiiies.gif], while the catholic
church was debating whether or not women had souls [STOP REPEATING THIS MYTH FFS]. The prophet could
have married any beautiful women in Arabia, but he only married widows
and old women who had no one to take care of them, apart from his
marriage to Aisha which was at first a political one.
And Mohammed’s wives weren’t all “widows and old women”, as we will see.
Anyway, Aisha was nine at the time of consummation. Here are only a few of the ahadith describing the arrangement, all narrated by different people.
What an adorable story, eh? There are lots of cute stories about Aisha’s childhood. Here’s one about Mohammed helping Aisha and her friends play with dolls uwu
She was a child bride. Full stop. She was a kid. If you get mad at people for accurately describing her age, that’s your own problem habibi.
It is true that after Mohammed died Aisha did assert herself politically on behalf of her father, much to the chagrin of certain Muslim sects. Allah neglected to give Mohammed a male heir, so after his death by natural causes, there was a bit of a controversy over whether his father-in-law (Abu Bakr) or cousin/son-in-law (Ali) should succeed him as the head of the growing Muslim empire. Aisha was only 18 when Mohammed died and was involved in the absolute clusterfuck that was the early Islamic power struggles and infighting for the next 50 years. But that is another story, and again, why does OP think that this helps her argument?
Let’s move on from Aisha to talk about the other women that people “don’t talk about”.
“Maryam al-Cibtiya” was Maria the Copt. She was a sex slave sent from Egypt and raped by Mohammed. She had a sister who was also a sex slave, raped by another guy. We learn about her from the histories, like Ibn Tabari’s famous one, which tells us she was a real hottie.
Sure you want people to “talk” about her, bud? Maria’s most notable contribution to the ahadith is this hilarious tale from Bukhari’s collection, in which Hafsa (another wife) caught Mohammed “having sex with”/raping Maria on her bed. Hafsa told Aisha, which caused Mohammed angst and evidently produced his incredible manchild rant in Surah At-Tahrim (#66), which begins:
The Quran allows men to rape their slaves, after all, so Mohammed puts his foot down and says “I’m not doing anything against Allah’s law, y’all leave me tf alone!!!” There is a more boring and dumb alternate story about how this rant was actually about eating honey but that’s a surejan.gif situation. Whatever surah 66 is talking about clearly upset Mohammed a lot, so I will leave it to your judgement whether the honey story makes more sense than the Maria one.
I guess we can talk about Safiyya next. Who was Safiyya? A slave-turned-wife. A Jewish one, the daughter of a Jewish tribal leader. Mohammed expelled Safiya and the other Jews from Medina; they were later destroyed in battle for opposing him. Her existence did not “change the antisemitism” among anyone; Jews were loathed by the early Muslims. People just gave her shit after she had “converted” (in order to be freed and marry Mohammed rather than remain a slave) and was no longer counted as a Jew, which people did frown upon. Let us look at how Mohammed acquired Safiyya:
Mohammed’s army killed the Jewish men and took the women and children as slaves. Mohammed married her immediately (within a week) after murdering her family because she was hot. I guess she was a widow though, since Mohammed’s people killed her husband…. uh. Sure you want people to talk about all these ladies? Here’s what happened to Safiyya’s father:
Then the apostle went out to the market of Medina (which is still its
market today) and dug trenches in it. Then he sent for them and struck
off their heads in those trenches as they were brought out to him in
batches. Among them was the enemy of Allah Huyayy ibn Akhtab and Kaab
ibn Asad their chief. There were 600 or 700 in all, though some put the
figure as high as 800 or 900. … Huyayy was brought out wearing a
flowered robe in which he had made holes about the size of the
finger-tips in every part so that it should not be taken from him as
spoil, with his hands bound to his neck by a rope. When he saw the
apostle he said, ‘By God, I do not repent of having opposed you, but he
who forsakes God will be forsaken.’ Then he went to the men and said,
‘God’s command is right. A book and a decree, and massacre have been
written against the Sons of Israel.’ Then he sat down and his head was
struck off.
A happy tale!
Who next? Maybe Rayhana, an “upper class Jewish woman”, as OP calls her. She naturally follows Safiyya because she was also taken as a slave after her family was brutally murdered. We can’t really “talk” much about her because little is known about her; the histories don’t even agree on whether she was freed or not or whether she remained with the Muslims. But another happy tale of Mohammed being a feminist, for sure. Nothing says feminism like enslaving women after you’ve killed their people!
Speaking of which, let’s “talk about” Juwayriyya. She wasn’t Jewish, but she was the same as the above–men killed, women enslaved.
There’s a lot of feminism and peace going on here, man!
Juwayriyya
was another young hottie, around 20 years old. Her father was the leader of the unfortunate Bani Mustaliq mentioned above, who the histories describe as terrified and largely defenseless in the face of the surprise attack that destroyed them. But yeah, after they got married Mohammed freed some slaves, the ones he and his people had just enslaved, so that his wife’s extended family members wouldn’t be slaves, which would have been shameful. Guess that makes up for the whole massacre thing!
Do y’all want me to continue or is that enough for today? Bc I have a lot to say about Zaynab (the hot daughter-in-law, not the other one) in particular.
Raping a 9 year old child makes any and every accomplishment a person has null and void. Sincerely fuck everyone defending this post, y'all need to stop referring to yourselves as both feminists and human beings immediately.
Please look up thighing in Islam…
Fuck the OP fuck defending child rape and just in general fuck the ppl who support the op’s message.
Therapists aren’t people who you “pay to pretend to care about you”, therapists are people you pay to teach you how to care for yourself
Me: I am violently depressed.
Therapist: Oh! Sounds like you need to do YOGA! That will help!
Me: *signs up for yoga*
Me: *is violently depressed in Downward Dog*
Me: I hate myself and only see my flaws
Therapist: ok lets refocus on things you like about yourself. This week i want you to try and journal about good things you’ve for yourself and others.
Me: *does the homework* yeah but i still hate myself but feel bad cause i shouldn’t
Therapist: feeling like you shouldn’t hate yourself is a step in the right direction. Mental health is complex and isn’t something that will ~magically~ improve. We have a lot of hard work head of us but I’ll be here to help you.
TL;DR stop perpetuating the idea that therapy is unhelpful because the results are not instantaneous.
FUCKING THIS.
As a psychologist the amount of bullshit on this site, the amount of fucking dangerous bullshit on this site about how therapy is neurotypical bullshit and isn’t worth it and how exercise is pointless and good diet is pointless and that therapy homework is pointless DRIVES ME UP THE FUCKING WALL
Exercise is fucking important. good diet is fucking important therapy is fucking important. WHY???
because pills alone don’t help. they improve the hormonal imbalance (as does exercise and good diet which ALSO are a form of very real self care as your physical being is sorta connected to your mental one but go fucking figure right?), but guess what? the suicidal thoughts, the thoughts of harm, the thoughts of hating yourself, they’re still there. suicides actually increase when medicated. why? because suddenly you have the energy to fulfill thoughts of harming yourself. which is why you NEED therapy alongside pills.
it has taken you years, or decades to create your maladaptive thought processes and behaviours. that shit doesn’t disappear overnight. core beliefs don’t change overnight. these are the very fucking core of your personhood, your being and personality. THAT TAKES TIME TO CHANGE
STOP ACTING LIKE THERAPY IS SHIT IF IT DOESNT WORK IN TWO SESSIONS
^This!!!!!
therapists are people so it’s possible they make mistakes, or you two have conflicting world views, or you find out they’re bigoted or you two just dont “match” it doesnt make therapy less important and you should keep trying to find a therapist who you can feel comfortable with, it doesnt put them in the same level as regular annoying people who tell you to do yoga to ‘cure’ your disorders
What this trite imagery misses out on is the fact that kintsukuroi requires a lot of work to repair a piece like that. It takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, a great deal of investment. Sometimes parts of the original are damaged beyond repair, and you have to instead painstakingly create entirely new ones.
It’s still not the same. Maybe it’s something more beautiful. But it’s not the fact that it broke that makes it beautiful. It’s the work put into it. It’s the fact that people made the effort to salvage it, because it was worth salvaging, because it was important enough to salvage. It’s the care that makes the beauty.
An apology can’t always fix what has been broken. That doesn’t mean it’s not irreparable, sometimes you can go on to rebuild and repair. But it won’t ever be the same as it was again.
I really appreciate this addition because I’ve always hated the “more beautiful for having been broken” thing. Being broken sucks and I hate all those tragic romantic sensitivities that try to make it what it’s not. These pieces are beautiful because they’re repaired with effort put in to making them shine.
So…I’m officially back on Tumblr. With all the tough shit going on in my life (toughest I’ve ever experienced) this is probably not the best time to get back on here, but I miss the fun posts n just scrolling thru my dashboard. I miss talking to ppl on here too. Pls hit me up. 👽
